Dr David Birnie BDS Edin FDS DMI RCS Edin FDS MOrth RCS Eng
David Birnie graduated from Edinburgh Dental School and spent three years as a lecturer in periodontology before starting his orthodontic training as a registrar in orthodontics at Kingston Hospital, Surrey and at the Royal Dental Hospital, London. He then moved to the Eastman Dental Hospital as a senior registrar in orthodontics. From 1982-2012, he was a consultant orthodontist at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. David is currently a part-time orthodontic consultant at Newcastle upon Tyne Dental School where he also has an academic appointment.
David has lectured extensively throughout the United Kingdom including invited presentations at the British Orthodontic Conference, the Consultant Orthodontists Symposium and the British Dental Association’s Annual and Scientific Meeting. From 1987-2016 he co-presented Excellence in Orthodontics with Dr Nigel Harradine and from 2017 has presented the Expert in Passive Self-lIgation course with Dr Elizabeth Menzel in Munich and Frankfort. In addition, he has lectured internationally in many countries and meetings including the Core Insignia Users Meetings in New York in 2011, 2016, Amsterdam 2018; the Asian Damon Forum in Bangkok in 2017, the Forum in Palm Desert in 2018 and was an invited speaker at the British Orthodontic Conference in 2018.
David was Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, RCS Edin from 2005-2010 and a Member of Dental Council RCSEdin until 2010. David sat on the General Dental Council from 1998-2003 and is a past chairman of the UK Specialist Advisory Committee in Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry.
David was awarded the British Orthodontic Society’s Distinction Award in 2009, The Dental Faculty Medal, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012, honorary membership of the British Orthodontic Society in 2016 and was Honorary Patron of the British Orthodontic Society in 2018.

Dr. Franklin She is a private practitioner and has established his exclusive orthodontic practice for fifteen years. He also teaches in his alma mater, The University of Hong Kong as a part- time Clinical Lecturer in postgraduate orthodontic program.
He pursued further training on MEAW (Multi-looped Edgewise Archwire) concept in Japan, application of TADs (Temporary anchorage devices) in Korea, biomechanics and Segmented arch technique in Italy.
He has published articles in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Journal of Dental Research, APOS trends in Orthodontics, Dental Asia and Hong Kong Medical Diaries and was invited to lecture locally and internationally on orthodontic camouflage of dentofacial deformities and applications of TADs and scientific biomechanics in cases involving other complex orthodontic problems.
He has served as an examiner in the conjoint examination of Membership in Orthodontics, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and The College of Dental Surgeon of Hong Kong. He is currently the Secretary General of International Association for Development and Spread of Orthodontic Biomechanics Knowledge (BIOMEDE) and the Honorary treasurer, The Hong Kong Society of Esthetic Dentistry.
Dr Kamarul Hisham Kamarudin BDS (Malaya); MFDSRCS (Eng); MClinDent (Lon)
Dr Kamarul Hisham Kamarudin is a Restorative Dental Specialist of the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and is currently based at Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his BDS from University of Malaya in 1997 and his Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics in 2005 from University College London Eastman Dental Institute, University of London. In 2017 he completed his area of special interest training in the field of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan. He has authored and co-authored several papers published in international journals.
He is a panel of assessor at the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, was a subcommittee member at National Specialist Register, member of board of studies at University Malaya and a panel of accreditor for Portal MyHealth. Currently he is a council member of Malaysian Association for Prosthodontics.
Professor OP Kharbanda
Professor OP Kharbanda is the Head of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Deformities and CHIEF of the Centre for Dental Education and Research (CDER) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He is Director of WHO Collaborating Centre and National Centre of Excellence on Oral Health Promotion, Ministry of Health, Government of India. CDER is also Global Partner with Cochrane Oral Health Group Manchester, England. In addition to Masters in Orthodontics, he is also Course Director of Cleft and Craniofacial Fellowship.
Dr Kharbanda is an astute clinician, dedicated teacher, a keen researcher besides an able team leader. Prof Kharbanda is an internationally known author, reviewer, and editor. He has published 168 papers including a Text Book “Diagnosis and Management of Malocclusion and Dentofacial Deformities” by Elsevier. Prof. Kharbanda has a particular interest in Minscrew implants, 3D imaging, Cleft lip and palate and Functional appliances. His work on clinical applications of MSI and automation in 3D imaging is widely known and cited. He serves the World Implant Orthodontic Society (WIOS) as the advisory board member. Dr Kharbanda is a visiting Professor at the Universities of Sydney, Perth and La Trobe in Australia and has travelled and lectured in several countries across the globe.
Associate Professor Dr Rathna Devi Vaithilingam BDS (Malaya); M Clin Dent (Perio)(Malaya)
Rathna Vaithilingam specialises in periodontology and implant dentistry. She started her career in the Ministry of Health in 1990 as a dental officer and went on to serve as a consultant periodontist. She joined the University of Malaya as an academic lecturer and is currently Associate Professor in the field of Periodontology. She has been a principal investigator in various research projects pertaining to periodontal-systemic relationship, genetic studies associated with periodontal disease and periodontal regenerative therapy. Her research output has been published in various peer- reviewed international and local publications. She was previously President of the Malaysian Society of Periodontology and is also a member of various national and international professional bodies. She has presented internationally and locally on her area of expertise.
Professor Dr. Rohaya Megat Abdul Wahab BDS (Malaya), MDentSc (Leeds), MOrth (Edinburgh)
Dr Rohaya , is Professor and Senior Consultant in Orthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She graduated with Bachelor of Dental Surgery from University of Malaya in 1994 and obtained the MDentSci in Orthodontics (Leeds) and MOrthRCS (Edinburgh) in 2001. Has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in UKM since 1994, and actively researching scientific projects since. Dr Rohaya has vast experience in dental research particularly in Clinical Orthodontics, biomarkers for orthodontics tooth movement and skeletal development, cell culture and stem cell studies. She and her team have published more than 40 scientific papers in local and international journals.
Professor Dr Rozita Hassan BDS(UM); MOrth (Malaya); MOrth RCS (Edin)
Rozita Hassan is Professor in Orthodontics and held the title of Head Orthodontics Department at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Health Campus, Kelantan. Currently she is leading a craniofacial clinical team that comprised of Cleft Lip and Palate, Orthognathic and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Clinic.
She received Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Upon 6 years serving Ministry of Health Malaysia in the area of hospital and community dentistry, she joined School of Dental Sciences, USM as orthodontic training lecturer. In 2004 she obtained Master of Orthodontics from Universiti Malaya and Membership in Orthodontics from Royal College of Surgeon Edinburgh. A fellow of World Federation of Orthodontics USA and Academy of Medicine, Malaysia, Prof Rozita has served as external and internal examiner to Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Master and Doctor of Philosophy .
She has received several awards for her research, teaching, and service, has authored and co-authored numerous articles pertaining to clinical orthodontics and craniofacial morphology. Being principle investigator to research grants, she published pioneer local baseline data in craniofacial biology and morphology pertaining to Cleft lip and palate, OSA and Thalassemia patients. In recent years her professional interests have focused primarily on the fields of craniofacial maturation, skeletal anchorage for adolescent class III malocclusion treatment and acceleration orthodontic tooth movement. She is an active member of Malaysia Orthodontics Association, Academics Medicine Malaysia, Malaysia Dental Association and World Federation of Orthodontics USA.
Dr. Shih Jaw, Tsai DDS, MS
Dr. Shih Jaw,Tsai received his DDS from National Taiwan University in 1999 and Master of Science in orthodontics from National Taiwan University in 2005. He maintains his private practices in Taipei, Taiwan, where he has been an Invisalign Elite provider since 2011. He has been treating patients with Invisalign since 2009 and has treated over 2000 invisalign cases to date.He focuses on digital smile design and interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment. Dr. Tsai is a Diplomate of Taiwan Board of Orthodontics and former Secretary General of Taiwan Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Tsai has been appointed Clinical Speaker for Invisalign since 2013 and was invited to Align APAC Advisory Board in 2018.
Dr Wilson Lee DDS (HKU); M Orth (HKU); M Orth RCS (Edin)
Dr. Wilson Lee obtained his dental degree, Master of Orthodontics and specialist training from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He was awarded the Gold Medal at the Conjoint Examination of the Membership in Orthodontics, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong. He is a Member in Orthodontics of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and is one of the first orthodontists to use Incognito Lingual Appliance in Hong Kong, while being the first batch of Key Opinion Leader (KOL) of Incognito since 2010. He has been invited to speak in international conferences in UK, USA, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Nepal, Cambodia, Indonesia and India, as well as conducting Incognito certification courses. He was a Keynote speaker at the recent Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference in Boracay, Philippines in 2018. He has treated over hundred Incognito cases and has recently obtained the prestigious Titular Membership of ESLO in 2018. He adopts orthodontic treatment philosophy based on both international research and clinical findings. He is Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor of the postgraduate program in Orthodontics at The University of Hong Kong. His clinical interests include Incognito lingual appliance, non-surgical orthodontic treatment of borderline surgical cases with Temporary Anchorage Devices and Esthetics in Orthodontics.
