Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that is concerned about the growth and development of the face, jaws and teeth.

It specialises in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of problems in the arrangement of teeth and jaws.

The technical term for these problems is 'maloccusion' or literally meaning 'abnormal bite'.


Orthodontic treatment involves the use of corrective appliances, commonly known as 'braces', to bring the teeth and jaws into a better position.
